5 things to look for in a professional organizer

1. Compatibility. This is by far the most important aspect to consider. Working with an organizer is a very intimate process, and you’ve got to have someone that you’re very comfortable with.

2. Kindness and compassion. Decluttering is a very emotional process, and you’ll have to make some difficult decisions. You want to be working with someone who will gently but firmly guide you through the process.

3. High energy. Organizing is intense both physically and emotionally. You will need someone with an abundance of energy and a can-do attitude.

4. Flexibility. Organizing jobs are always fast and furious. Because we’re managing multiple moving parts in a finite space, sometimes we have to pivot mid-project. Be sure you have someone who is savvy enough to do that.

5. Practicality. Our sole purpose is to make your life easier, so be sure your organizer has that as his or her priority. We need to leave you with a system that works for you, not implement a trend just because it’s cool.
